Friday, May 22, 1992 City Hall was closing for Memorial Day Weekend. They issued our liquor license at 5:01 PM, and locked the door of the clerk’s office behind me! I ran to Stage Left, where Mark was unpacking liquor onto the bar, and we opened the doors for the first time at 5:30 PM. We’re going to re-enact that run 34 years later. I will be in front of City Hall at 5 PM, where you are welcome to join me. At 5:15 we will walk briskly to the restaurant, where Mark will greet us. We will toast 34 years with Champagne and then drink from 34 bottles! We hope you can join us. We’re opening 34 different bottles for an extraordinary tasting! We’ve selected an array of wine and spirits that represent the history, character and evolution of Stage Left. There will be crisp rosé and quaffable reds for summer, along with bubbles and caviar and extraordinary Riesling from Johannes Selbach. We’ll dig into our personal cellars and pull out some gems from old friends like Cathy Corison, Paul Hobbs, George Hendry, and others. There will be some very special whiskey from our single barrel bourbons to ghost distillery scotches. We’ll also be running several special wines by the glass to enjoy with dinner.
